By bending 3 abstract labile planes along this trajectory and intersecting them, a structural entity is emerging. The ‘Fold Lamp’ is an investigation into the material properties of sheet metal, with an emphasis on the role played by the human body in the process of metal-working. The unique shape was created by hand, by applying just enough body weight to transform a thin and flexible sheet of metal into a final form. Using manual methods instead of conventional mechanical techniques allows for greater autonomy of the material. ‘Fold Lamp’ exemplifies Maria’s approach to creation: navigating between art and design, the designer explores the ways that objects mediate our connection to the body.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0601/6928/9981/files/Fold_lamp_pair_Maria_Tyakina_98d84d80-74c2-4055-a95d-ca6f7993331e.jpg?v=1772620219
bb-chair-corpus-studio
Bb Chair

The bb chair
bb like baby, mon amour
bb like Brigitte Bardot, voluptuous, suave
bb like babybel cheese, whose ingenious, soft, red, wax shell splits away into pieces.

The idea of bb came from tectonic experiments in material and form, where equal parts make a whole. The Prospect Lamp combines patinated copper with slag, a byproduct of producing metal, in such a way that the materials seem born of the same ilk. The asymmetry and cubic constructions echo a brutalist language familiar to the cityscape, while the dark tones are contrasted by a warm inner light; a combined effect which hints to the necessity of metals like copper for our built environment and the comfort of the services we enjoy. Copper and its extraction become a focal point in these pieces––a rich metal on which we profoundly depend on, particularly in the age of renewables and electrification. Known for innovating material processes as a pathway to creating distinct furniture, lighting and accessories, the studio works with ceramic, cast metal and glass. Their project Moon Rock explores a speculative narrative about how mining in space might solve the resource crisis on Earth. Simultaneously, the project demonstrates a method the studio developed of recycling discarded car wheels into aluminium foam furniture.
