With his cross-disciplinary practice, designer and artist Inderjeet Sandhu exposes the hidden narratives of constructing identity and a sense of home between cultures and beyond established realities. Through his bi-cultural upbringing in an Indian household in The Netherlands, he experiences first-hand how cultures and ideologies often contradict each other.

My Approach
My body of work challenges existing perceptions and convictions and explores alternate metaphorical homes that are porous and receptive to continuous renegotiation. My series are often inspired by objects that represent and embody very specific contexts and ideologies, but by confusing, mixing, subverting and denying preconceived notions of the object’s usage, history and connotation, I deprive them of their familiar understanding and make them in bodies of displacement themselves. Like its maker, will these objects that seem to belong to a different world ever find an accepting home in ours?
