Designed by Thibault Huguet
Squaring wood (equarrissage in french) is a technique used by carpenters which consists of transforming a round wooden log into a square beam. EQUARRI benches are produced entirely by hand with ancestral tools. The tree is selected and felled by hand before being pruned with an axe. The brutality of the gesture, as evidenced by the imprint left by the tool, contrasts with the delicacy of the two sculpted parts. Thus, this piece pays homage to the gesture of the carpenter who is, in essence, a real sculptor. This burnt version is a tribute to the structure of Notre Dame de Paris which burnt during the fire in 2019.
