The Tide collection is a symphony of contrasts, that skilfully marry smooth top parts and textured matte ceramic bases. The choice in finish serve as a deliberate expression of the fluid qualities inherent in water, offering a dynamic interplay between light and surface. The organic shapes that define each candelabra, create a visual dialogue that transcends earlier work by the studio. .
Designed to accommodate extremely thin candles, these sculptures boast an exquisite balance between delicacy and strength, further enhancing the interplay between organic forms and stark geometric lines.
About the artist
Jan Ernst is a multidisciplinary creative specializing in functional art and spatial design using clay as his main medium. The work is driven by his fascination with natural structures such as corals, fungi and rock formations. His organic designs stem from his abstract understanding of form and space influenced by his background in architecture, his connection with the natural world and his South African heritage.
