Ex Hale Wallpiece Green Onyx

Ex Hale Wallpiece is a sculpture that mimics the shape of a monumental cushion. Based on the Ex Hale Table, it features the same pillow shape developed by Ben Storms for his In Vein and In Hale Tables. Carved from a single block of natural stone, the Ex Hale Wallpiece plays with our common notions of materiality: the hard stone appears soft and light instead, an impression reinforced by the delicate surface treatment. The nature of Onyx and its unique patterning, its almost crystalline quality, also adds a reference to apparent fluidity, echoing the seepage of water over thousands of years.
