Designed by Ben Storms
Every manifestation of Ben Storms’ design process is a consequence of what precedes it. This is evident in this expressive table, which is the result of a path he has been exploring for some time now. It involves highly intuitive forms that emerge through processes that are only partially predictable. In fact, the various components that make up the table are the continuation of an idea that has been described as “crushed”. A term that expresses the fact that an initial form, made of welded steel sheets, is then deformed under high pressure, the point of interruption being mainly a choice, the rest being less under his control.
Specific to his attention to materiality and texture, Ben Storms responds to this rather forceful process with a very careful treatment of the surfaces. In so doing, he pursues a diversity that nevertheless speaks in harmony. Some surfaces are carefully sanded by hand, giving them a subdued character and a muted interaction with the surrounding light and environment. In other places, the steel has been meticulously polished to reflect its surroundings in a precise and straightforward manner.
Variations can be custom made.
