Ciénaga Vidrio Wall Lamp

Ciénaga is a collection that emerges like a domino effect of experimental needs within a design process. In its quest to expand the Materia Digital catalog, ERM Studio experiments with aluminum drippings in sand—a material that is fully recycled. Similarly, the sand used for the molds is entirely reused to produce new pieces.

ERM Studio articulates this new collection by melting aluminum at high temperatures and allowing gravity to guide it into the mold. This process generates a limited series of unique pieces, where the method itself defines the aesthetic. The materiality of liquid aluminum, its behavior when "dripped," and the texture resulting from the thermal shock between the warm sand mold and the aluminum at 600°C are recorded in a series of cracks, marking the intensity of this process.
