With this new addition, Ben continues to expand his In Hale wallpieces series. In each case the results are related, but those who look closely will notice where they differ, sometimes subtly, sometimes remarkably. This time the definitive form, the distinctive idiom of the inflated metal pillow, is responded to in a very gentle way.
As you approach the piece, you will notice that the gold, which can stand out and shine from a distance, has been applied using an ancient and time-consuming technique. In collaboration with the incomparable Pierre Yves Morel, master decorator, this bold pillow has been expertly gilded with the signature small sheets of gold leaf, in this case 24 carats.
The contrast already inherent in the voluminous, heavy object, which appears airy and almost floating, is enhanced. Knowing that gold leaf is incredibly fragile, with a thickness of 0.12 microns, it drifts through the air. But once applied, it remains for eternity.
Variations can be custom made.
