Héctor Esrawe

Héctor Esrawe was born in 1968 in Mexico City. He studied Industrial Design at Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) until 1992, and in 2003 he launched Esrawe Studio, his multidisciplinary design practice which he directs until today.

Ancestral artisanal skills in Mexico have evolved into contemporary collectible design works that are not only preserving the artisanal heritage but also gaining recognition and admiration globally. Esrawe works with traditional techniques, to create pieces that are both aesthetic and functional, while being a testament to the enduring relevance of ancient Mexican heritage.

Esrawe’s design includes a great variety of typologies, from furniture and limited edition pieces, to interiors, architecture, installations in public spaces and museography. Hector strongly believes in collaboration and multidisciplinary interaction, which has allowed him to work with other design and architecture studios, urbanists, artists, curators, and set designers. This enthusiasm has led him to be co-founder of EWE, VISSIO and MASA, which aim to promote Mexican collectible design. He is also a founding partner of the perfumery brand Xinú.

He has achieved international recognition for his work and professional career. He was recently recognized by The American Institute of Architects as Honorary Fellow, he was mentioned as one of AD Germany Top 100 Creatives 2021 and AD Mexico Top 100 Creatives 2022, and he has received awards such as the World Special Prize for an Interior by Prix Versailles 2021, Interior Design Studio of the Year 2020 by Dezeen Awards, Best of Year Awards by Interior Design, Azure Awards, among others.

The studio breaths of dedication, passion and persistence, focusing on fine details and quality, always pushing boundaries and taking on new challenges.

Héctor Esrawe’s works have been exhibited internationally, including at Objective Gallery in China and New York, in a solo show at Ateliers Courbet in New York, at Collectional Gallery in the United Arab Emirates, at Oliver Gustav in Copenhagen, and at MASA Galería, most notably at their Rockefeller Center debut, as well as in a recent collaborative exhibition with Luhring Augustine. Esrawe’s work is part of private collections, as well as permanent collections such as that of the High Museum in Atlanta. He has been awarded the Créateurs Design Award for Best Limited Series and Bespoke Design (2024), Best Design Collection (2025) in Paris and Hall of Fame (2025).

At Esrawe, design is a living process of dialogue, linking the users with their surroundings. It is all about feeling the evolution of design, which stems from an understanding of basic physical and emotional needs of a given moment, and in each context.

Esrawe aims to push boundaries as what can be achieved through collaboration with the artisans creating new possibilities and languages. The Gear Collection explores the rich history and cultural significance of metal and foundry in Mexico, with a focus on the interplay between tradition and innovation. The importance of collaboration in Esrawe’s work, is a reflection of his deep commitment and understanding of the artisanal value rooted in Mexican tradition - it is an homage to their talent and creativity.

The Gear ST were presented at ‘Progresiones Evocativas’ exhibition at Héctor Esrawe Showroom in Mexico City in February 2023 and at ‘Unearthing: The Alchemy of Mexican Metalwork’ at Gallery Collectional, Dubai 2024.
