The stainless steel stool is made with a naturally tanned salmon leather seating. The skins used are a waste product from supermarket fish and otherwise would have been incinerated. Since fish have a different type of connective tissue compared to mammals, the leather of their skin is relatively stronger than regular leather. A precious quality, that this stool highlights.
The stool is designed with a system that allows the leather to be easily tensioned again or to replace a fishskin, with the aim to optimize the durability.
About the artist
Describing herself as an 'artivist' Nienke Hoogvliet (1989) combines art and activism to inspire harmony between humans, society and the natural environment.
