This sculptural ceramic piece draws from two of Jojo Corväiá’s major series, each rooted in a distinct conceptual and material language. The Berber Series reflects a connection to ancestral strength and elemental forces. Made from volcanic clay and subjected to high-temperature firings, these works evoke the raw beauty of geological formations. Their surfaces are rough and textured, resembling eroded stone or ancient relics shaped by time and nature, emphasizing a deep bond between earth, fire, and form.
The Bobo Series, in contrast, explores the tension between bohemian spontaneity and bourgeois elegance. These works take the form of vessels, but challenge conventional ideas of function. With bold, expressive shapes and commanding presence, they act more as sculptural statements. Surface treatments play with contrast—matte textures alongside polished, reflective areas—creating a visual dialogue between refinement and raw authenticity.
In combining elements of both series, this piece embodies a dynamic interplay of opposites. It feels both ancient and contemporary, grounded and elevated, embodying Corväiá’s ongoing exploration of material, memory, and the layered meanings within form.
