Since the studio was founded in 2013 we have a main focus on materials that can contribute to a more holistic world. The projects raise awareness of social and environmental problems in the textile, leather and food industry. By creating innovative alternatives they hope to change perspectives and systems.

Nienke grew up near the beach, her connection to the ocean was the foundation of the research into seaweed and fish skin. In the project SEA ME the studio researches how seaweed can contribute to a more sustainable textile industry. Although the research is ongoing, the findings were published in the books ‘Seaweed Research’ and ‘Fish Leather’.

The work has been exhibited worldwide in institutions like Artipelag, Stockholm | Centre Pompidou, Paris | Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, New York | Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
