Designed by Jan Ernst
Twiggy was created as an imaginary creature that embodies the physical attributes of different life forms that fascinate me. As an artist I often get lost in a make-believe world where anything is possible, and the rules of logic don't apply.
This sculptural candelabra could be half centipede, half coral with horns growing on its back. On its own, its absurdity captures the viewer's attention as a three dimensional artwork with an African identity, but transforms further when the candles elongate its linear body and the light bounces of the spikey texture.
The aim is to give the viewer a glimpse into the fantasy world that exists in my mind. As a first of its kind, Twiggy sets the mood for a collection of imaginary creatures to follow.
Material: The sculptural candelabra is made of unglazed, white stoneware clay with and fired to earthernware temperatures.
