The Accordi series of mouth-blown glass vases, each one-of-a-kind, is inspired by the harmonious colours found in nature. From brown to amber, from green to grey, each vase showcases a unique combination of colours, offering a journey through a spectrum of half-tones, warm shades, and natural hues. The intricate technique utilised to create these pieces is known as 'incalmo,' a traditional glassblowing method that requires a high level of skill and precision on the part of the glassblower. Each piece exudes a sculptural look and feel, reflecting the excellence of craftsmanship and the designer's dedication to creating timeless, unique glassworks.

Please note: This piece has been designed by Laura Sattin and made in collaboration with skilled glassblowers at a furnace located at the foot of the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. The slight variations in shape, alterations in color, subtle tool marks, or small air bubbles that can be seen in the glass all testify to the authenticity of the craftsmanship. Due to the handcrafted process each piece is unique.

Technical Data

Material: Mouth-blown glass

The intricate technique utilized to create these pieces is known as 'incalmo,' a traditional glassblowing method that involves grafting different colored glass pieces together. Initially, three pieces of colored glass are individually hand-blown, requiring great skill to ensure uniform size and diameter. Subsequently, the colors are fused together into a single piece, which is then coated with an additional layer of clear glass, encapsulating the colors. The final shape of the vase is achieved by blowing it into a cylindrical wooden mold, followed by careful hand opening of the vase's mouth. After cooling for at least 24 hours, the vases undergo sandblasting and waxing, resulting in their characteristic satin finish and smooth surface.

About the artist

Laura Sattin (1989) is an Italian architect and glass designer. Born and raised in Vicenza, Italy, she now lives in Basel, Switzerland. Since 2015, in parallel with her career as an architect, she dedicates herself to the study of glass working techniques and the creation of blown glass objects. Her works, characterised by a careful combination of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetic, have been shown in several solo and group exhibitions worldwide, such as DesignArt Tokyo, DesignMiami/ Basel, and more.
