Die Nagwag (The Nightwatch) is a progression of the Kraal Mural, exploring the intersection between human experience and the embrace of nature. Inspired by the artist's poignant childhood memories in rural landscapes, this floor lamp embodies the mystique and allure of the nocturnal guardian - the night watch.
Growing up amidst the vast expanse of the countryside, the artist developed a profound sensitivity to the delicate interplay between humanity and the natural world. Daily observations on the family farm instilled in him a deep appreciation for the subtle nuances of existence, particularly during the enigmatic hours of the night.
Central to Die Nagwag is the enigmatic figure of the night watch, whose solitary vigilance serves as a beacon of light amidst the darkness. The lamp's design channels the essence of this mysterious guardian, casting a soft, diffused glow that evokes the gentle radiance of a distant lantern piercing through the night.

About the artist
Jan Ernst is a multidisciplinary creative specializing in functional art and spatial design using clay as his main medium. The work is driven by his fascination with natural structures such as corals, fungi and rock formations. His organic designs stem from his abstract understanding of form and space influenced by his background in architecture, his connection with the natural world and his South African heritage.
