This ceramic piece from the Kuwabata series carries a raw, elemental presence, as if it were something unearthed rather than created by hand. Formed from volcanic clay and finished with layers of rugged glazes, it stands with solid weight and authority, measur- ing 48 cm by 48 cm and reaching a height of 35 cm, with a mass of 16 kg.
Each piece in the Kuwabata series challenges the hand with its outer structure, resisting easy handling and inviting a contempla- tive approach. Its coarse texture and organic, almost sea-like form suggest a wild, natural beauty shaped by earth and time. The piece speaks of resilience and the quiet power of nature, embracing irreg- ularity and the marks of process as essential parts of its character.
The philosophy behind this series respects what is often over- looked—the strength in simplicity, the quiet endurance in rawness, and the beauty in that which remains unchanged by refinement. The Kuwabata series draws the viewer into a timeless world, where each form holds a silent gravity, embodying the wisdom of nature in its unpolished state.
