Self Reflect

Building on the material research which initially led to a collection of mirrors, Anton Hendrik Denys takes on the seating object in its purest form and rethinks it. Starting with a simple beam shape, and making all sorts of variations on it; deforming and adapting it in a very architectural way. Merging the formal and material studies as a logical next step. A series of objects is created who exist on their own, without defining their function in a room. The formal research led to a large number of shapes and eventually 2 shapes were executed : element 01 (a smaller cube that serves as a stool or simply a pedestal) and element 02, that serves as a bench. The pieces function as each other’s negatives – a yin-yang concept, where the cube is glossy and reflective and bright in colour whereas the bench comes with a matt finish and more earthy tones. They form a set but can just as well exist on their own.
